Our Use of AI
At Pyefinch Crafted Gifts, we believe in being open about how our products are presented.
As a small workshop business, professionally staging and photographing every product in a variety of lifestyle settings would require a considerable number of locations, sets, props and photographic equipment. To help us present our products in attractive and relevant settings, we use AI-assisted imagery, particularly for the main image used to introduce a product.
The Product Is Real – The Setting May Not Be
The important distinction is that the wooden products shown in our AI-assisted images are based on photographs of products we have actually made.
AI may be used to help create the surrounding scene, setting or presentation, allowing us to show a product in an appropriate context without maintaining a collection of photographic sets and props for every type of product we make.
Our intention is to create an appealing and useful representation of the product, not to create something digitally that we cannot actually make.
See the Real Product
We understand that when buying a handmade product online, you should be able to see what you're actually buying.
For this reason, the original photographs of the real product used to help create our AI-assisted imagery are also included within the product's image gallery.
These photographs allow you to see the genuine product without the digitally created lifestyle setting and should be used alongside the product description, dimensions and other information when considering your purchase.

How Our Products Are Designed
AI-generated imagery should also not be confused with how our products themselves are designed or manufactured.
Our products are made from CAD designs created by us or from design files that we have purchased with the appropriate commercial licence.
These designs are then turned into real products in our workshop through machining, woodworking, assembly and finishing as appropriate to each item.
AI imagery is therefore a presentation tool, not a substitute for the design, materials or craftsmanship that goes into the finished product.
Why We Use It
Using AI-assisted imagery allows a small business like ours to create varied and appropriate settings for a growing range of products without the space, expense and waste involved in sourcing and storing large quantities of props and constructing multiple photographic sets.
It also allows us to spend more of our time doing what Pyefinch Crafted Gifts exists to do — designing and making quality wooden products in our workshop.
We believe this is a sensible use of the technology, while also believing that customers should know when the presentation of a product may have been digitally assisted.
